Before you start
To make rosin, you have a number of options in terms of starting materials. You can choose from flowers, kief or hash. If you press flowers, you will get excellent quality but not necessarily the best yields. Kief or hash will produce great quality and decent yields.
On top of your starting materials, you will need:
A bit of science
It is good to experiment and test a bit before you start pressing as every strain is different and reacts to heat and temperature differently.
Recommended testing temperatures:
- Bubble Hash: 75 °C
- Dry Sift/Kief: 80 °C
- Flower: 75 -95 °C
- Trim/Leaves/Shake: 95 -105 °C
The right temperature makes the good final product. Remember!
Lower temperatures equals more flavor/terpenes, less yield, stable material
Higher temperatures meanless flavor/terpenes, more yield, less stable material
Pressing
Place your plant material in between the parchment paper and start the press. After that, remove the filter bag or flower from the paper, and your rosin will be yielded onto your parchment paper.
Collecting
After you finish pressing, we recommend you to cool it down (for example by putting it in the fridge). Then use your collection tool to collect the rosin from the paper.
Ready!
This is what you can expect in terms of yield per starting material, together with the recommended filter bag, temperature and length of press:
Average yields Recommended Filter Bag Pressing
Flower: 10-30% 37/90/120/160um 100 °C 90 seconds 1x press
Dry sift: 20-60% 25/37um 80 °C 55 seconds 3x press
Bubble: 20-70% 25/37um 80 °C 55 seconds 3x press
You can decide to use the left over material for example for cooking, or just throw it away because a major part of the beneficial cannabinoids have been extracted.
